Hydrogen Summit 2024

In 2024, CEME brought together industry leaders, innovators, academics and policymakers from across the UK for a Hydrogen Summit with the theme Hydrogen Innovators and the Future.

Our region will be transformed over the next 30 years, with infrastructure projects including the Lower Thames Crossing and the developing Thames Freeport planned to generate jobs and opportunities for the whole area.

The Thames Estuary Hydrogen Route Map, developed by the Thames Estuary Growth Board working with Ikigai and DNV, has identified and evaluated the potential for an investable hydrogen generation, distribution, storage and usage infrastructure here.

At CEME, we aim to make a difference to our world. We work to promote and support inclusive business growth and skills development for the future.

The demand for green hydrogen is projected to grow exponentially in the coming years as industries and governments seek to decarbonise and meet net-zero targets.

Working in collaboration

We can’t work in isolation on such significant ambitions. We need to learn from and collaborate with others, such as the Celtic Freeport and the Hydrogen East Cluster, which will help us to leverage renewable energy sources for hydrogen production, while university partners including Brunel University London and University College London (UCL) enable technological innovation, development of sustainable business models and a skilled workforce.

A central part of the Route Map is the plan for the Hydrogen Innovation Centre, in development by a consortium comprising, among others, Ikigai Group, the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC), Thames Estuary Growth Board, UCL and University of Kent, which aims to support the development and commercialisation of the next generation of innovative products in the transition to net zero.

CEME will offer the office space, industrial-scale lab and hydrogen-ready demonstrator facilities and scale up support, as well as an existing solar-powered hydrogen production and refuelling station, each of which are needed for innovators in hydrogen to test, prototype, micro-manufacture and commercialise their technologies.

Our purpose is to create prosperity by delivering quality jobs, skills and opportunities in the communities we serve, across our region and the country as a whole. Together with our partners, we are working on innovative solutions for our future.

Hydrogen Innovators and the Future

Our digital publication, Hydrogen Innovators and the Future, brought together views from these partners and supported the key themes of the Hydrogen Summit 2024.
